Shoalhaven to host 50th Anniversary Koori Rugby League Knockout

Shoalhaven City Council at their Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday, 25th February 2019 resolved to support the South Coast Black Cockatoos, to host the 50th Anniversary NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout event to be held at Bomaderry Sporting Complex & Artie Smith Oval over the October long weekend kicking off on Thursday 1 October running through to Monday 5 October 2020.

Mayor Amanda Findley said she is looking forward to the five-day event coming to the Shoalhaven.

“It is estimated the event will potentially bring 50,000+ people to the region over the five days, boosting our regions tourism economy in a time when the region needs support,” Clr Findley said.

“Council have committed to allocate $400,000 through an appropriate funding stream toward infrastructure improvements to hold the event, as some significant field improvements are required at the Bomaderry Sporting Complex and Artie Smith Oval.

“This is the 50th Anniversary event and an exciting opportunity for the Shoalhaven community to share and enjoy.

“It was an exciting moment when the South Coast Black Cockatoos defeated Griffith Three Ways in October 2019 on the Central Coast and won the right to host the 2020 event. I want to again congratulate the team on winning last year’s Carnival.” Clr Findley said.

The region will host 64 Men’s Teams, 24 Women’s Teams and 24 in each category of the Youth Draw, with players and their families planning to stay in the region.
