The Young Archies showcases artistic talent from students, Kindergarten to Year 12 in government schools, providing them with a fantastic opportunity to experience participating in an impressive art exhibition.
The Awards, which are on display at the UTAS School of Creative Arts in Hobart, are modelled on the famous Archibald Prize and are supported by learning sequences for students.
The Arts play an important and highly valued role in our community, with opportunities such as these allowing our young people to use their creativity and imagination to communicate and express themselves.
Students are free to create a portrait of a person they know using oil, acrylic, watercolour and/or mixed media, and it’s wonderful to see such a rich and diverse array of artworks on display.
The awards are presented in year categories with exhibitions organised in schools prior to the event, and four portraits are selected from each year category at each school for the Young Archies.
From attending each year, I am always impressed with the incredibly high standard of art on display from all age groups across the entire State.
The originality and creativity shown by our students is something of which they should all be extremely proud, and I would like to congratulate the winners and all students who participated in this year’s awards.
The exhibition will be on display at the UTAS School of Creative Arts until Sunday, 15 September and I encourage everyone to view this free exhibition open to the public.
