Social Housing Income Eligibility Limits Increased

  • Cook Government increases social housing eligibility limits for both single and dual income households
  • Changes to income eligibility limits will ensure recipients of Commonwealth benefits remain eligible for social housing
  • Under the current State Government, the income eligibility limits for social housing have increased five times

Housing Minister John Carey has announced a further increase to the income eligibility limits for social housing – ensuring more people remain eligible for social housing.

Social housing income eligibility limits have increased by $9 for single income households and $14 for dual income households.

The increase to income eligibility limits affects both public housing and community housing where public housing income eligibility limits are used.

This latest increase will ensure that recipients of Commonwealth statutory benefits who receive no other income continue to remain eligible for social housing.

In eight years of Government, the previous Barnett Liberal-National Government did not increase social housing income eligibility once and the current WA Labor Government has increased social housing eligibility limits five times.

As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:

“Our Government continues to do everything it can to ensure the most vulnerable in the community have access to safe, affordable and sustainable housing.

“The Cook Labor Government has increased social housing income eligibility limits five times since coming into Government in March 2017, ensuring those most vulnerable in our community remain eligible for social housing.

“Social housing income eligibility limits have been raised again in line with rising income support payment rates, ensuring those members of the community who rely on Commonwealth income support remain eligible for social housing.”
