Sod Turn for New Coolum Police Station

Police Minister Mark Ryan joined Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll to “turn the sod” at the site of the new $2.7m Coolum Police Station.

It followed the awarding of the construction tender to Sunshine Coast based Badge Constructions.

The new station will be a state-of-the-art facility and will include a soundproof interview room, dayroom, amenities, holding cell and will support improved safety for staff and the public.

Minister Ryan said the project was another example of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to providing police with the facilities they need.

“The Queensland Police Service is world class, there is no doubt about that.

“And our government recognises the Police Service’s commitment to the community.

“This year we have delivered a record police budget.

“There are more police in Queensland than ever before and there are more coming.

“Another 110 police recruits have graduated from our Police Academies in recent weeks.

“And we are providing police with the equipment and infrastructure they need.

“This new facility at Coolum demonstrates our commitment to police and to the local community”, Minister Ryan said.

The project is due to be completed by late 2020, weather permitting.

Commissioner Carroll said this was an exciting time for the Queensland Police Service and the Coolum community.

“The new station will provide the facilities to support frontline policing into the future.

“The awarding of the tender is an important milestone in this project.

“I look forward to this new station operating in the Coolum community,” Commissioner Carroll said.
