Soft Plastic Recycling Collection Available In Prahran

A limited-time trial of soft plastics is currently underway, with a collection bin in place at ALDI Prahran (34 Elizabeth St, Prahran).

Currently, Stonnington residents are advised to place soft plastic waste into their household garbage bin. This collection bin provides a recycling alternative for the same soft plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfill.

The trial is being run externally by the Soft Plastics Taskforce at 12 Coles, Woolworths and ALDI supermarkets across Melbourne.

Soft plastics collected will be sorted and processed into various products, including an additive for making asphalt roads, a replacement for aggregate in concrete and plastic shopping trolleys and baskets.

Collected soft plastics will not be stockpiled.

Some examples of accepted soft plastics include:

  • plastic bags
  • bread bags
  • chip packets
  • cereal liners
  • confectionary wrappers.

Customers are asked not to drop off large quantities of soft plastics, or more than the capacity of the collection bin.

The trial will be reviewed by the Soft Plastics Taskforce. A decision will then be made about future collection options.
