South Australia’s labour force continues to break records.

For the second month in a row, SA has recorded the highest total number of jobs on record.

Labour Force figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show there are now 959,300 people employed in South Australia, 53,000 more than at the time of the state election, in seasonally adjusted terms.

That’s enough additional people in work under the Malinauskas Government to fill Adelaide Oval. Of these, more than 80 per cent, or 43,000, are full-time.

South Australia’s unemployment rate remains near record lows at 3.9 per cent, currently on par with the national rate.

Our participation rate also remains at a near record high of 64.4 per cent.

As put by Stephen Mullighan

South Australia’s labour force continues to break records and perform strongly compared to the rest of the nation.

However, both locally and nationally, the unemployment rate is beginning to rise.

It’s clear that households and businesses are tightening their belts as they feel the impact of interest rate rises and inflation.

This will weigh on economic statistics heading into 2024, as the Commonwealth’s MYEFO highlighted with an expected slowdown in GST revenue collection.

However, our latest job figures are further confirmation that South Australia approaches this period of economic uncertainty from a position of strength.
