Premier Mark McGowan visited Busselton Senior High School today to announce $657,062 for maintenance works and upgrades.
The funding will go towards revamping the design and technology workshops, structural repairs and electrical work.
The works are part of a major school infrastructure package, which will see $35 million spread across all 789 Western Australian public schools for maintenance improvements.
The remaining $165 million of funding is allocated to schools for other targeted maintenance works, upgrades or refurbishments.
Schools will be encouraged to use local contractors to deliver these works through the State Government’s ‘Direct to Market’ initiative which gives schools the ability to engage local contractors directly, cutting unnecessary red tape.
These works will include classroom refurbishments, electrical upgrades, roof replacements and refurbishments, traffic management works, installation of solar panels and shade structures, repairs to playing surfaces, paths and car parks, and toilet refurbishments.

“WA kids deserve to be learning in the best possible school facilities – that’s why our major maintenance blitz will benefit every public school across our State.
“Our ‘Direct to Market’ policy means schools can engage with local contractors directly, helping support local jobs and cutting red tape.
“This is a major investment that will create thousands of jobs for Western Australians and deliver a stimulus to the local South-West economy, creating opportunities for local electricians, painters, plumbers, builders and carpenters.”

“We are delivering on our commitment to improve schools around the State, regardless of where they are located, and this package will deliver huge benefits to school communities.”

“Thousands of students attend schools in our South-West so it’s important they have access to the best facilities available.
“With almost $12 million worth of funding, our schools will be able to undertake much needed maintenance works.
“Funding for Busselton Senior High School will go a long way to address pressing maintenance needs and help to create an improved learning environment for students.
“The school maintenance funding blitz will also help stimulate the local economy by supporting and creating local jobs for local tradespeople.”
