GENEVA – The Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change, Elisa Morgera, will conduct an official country visit to Mozambique from 21 September to 2 October.
The visit aims to collect firsthand information on the impacts of climate change on human rights, and the extent to which human rights are shaping existing and planned climate responses.
The Special Rapporteur is also looking forward to learning about the human rights impact of climate events and the role of international technical assistance, capacity-building and international finance in supporting the resilience and adaptive capacities of people in vulnerable situations in the context of climate change.
During the visit, the expert will meet with Government officials, representatives from civil society, academics, UN agencies, the private sector and other stakeholders including communities affected by climate change.
The Special Rapporteur will present her preliminary conclusions and recommendations at a press conference on 2 October at 13:00 local time at OHCHR premises Kim Il Sung Avenue, Number 974, Maputo. Access is strictly limited to journalists.
The Special Rapporteur will present her report to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2027.
