Like all Australians, our thoughts are with those affected by the devastating bushfires raging throughout NSW and across the country. Many Griffith residents have expressed their desire to assist the victims and in response, Griffith City Council is launching the Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said in launching this Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal, Council and our community are responding to the severity of the destruction throughout NSW, particularly in our Riverina region.
“Council will open the Appeal with $10,000 and that and all further funds raised will be directed to fire victims in the Snowy Valleys region, who are our nearest affected communities, to assist them in the short-term,” Councillor Dal Broi said
“Our advice is the donation of cash is the highest priority for those who have lost their homes. Therefore, this is the most appropriate way of supporting our friends in the Snowy Valleys.”
At this stage, donations of food and clothing are not required.
“I also take this opportunity to heartily thank all the RFS firefighters, emergency services and other volunteers who have been working tirelessly during this crisis”.
Griffith City Council General Manager, Mr Brett Stonestreet said Council will be seeking advice from the affected communities in the coming weeks as to what other forms of assistance we can offer.
“We may be able to assist with practical solutions such as providing additional labour for operation of plant,” he said.
Cash donations for the Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal can be made at Council’s Administration Building, 1 Benerembah Street Griffith or by depositing money to:
