State Budget delivers for Toowoomba TAFE

This year’s State Budget has delivered even more for Toowoomba with additional funding for the TAFE campus to ensure students have the best in training facilities.

Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman visited the campus to announce $1.68 million for ongoing campus revitalisation as part of this year’s State Budget.

“Making sure we have the skilled workforce for the jobs of the future in the Toowoomba region is vital to our thriving economy,” Ms Fentiman said.

“The Palaszczuk Government will continue to invest in training for Queenslanders and that’s why we have doubled our commitment to revitalise TAFE campuses across the state with more than $105 million in this year’s Budget.

“As part of this commitment, we will be investing a further $1.68 million in the Toowoomba TAFE campus to ensure that students have access to modern, state of the art training facilities.

“This is in addition to the $7 million for the new Rural Centre of Excellence and upgrades to health training facilities.”

“With the footings and building pads completed the Rural Centre of Excellence is starting to take shape and is scheduled to be finished in August.

“Once work is completed, 400 extra students will be able to study here in Toowoomba.”

“Students will be able to learn about new technologies and emerging practices in sustainable agriculture and horticulture.

“This is an exciting time for the Toowoomba campus with work to begin in the coming months to also convert the former library into interactive learning spaces.

“The agriculture and the health sector are important for Toowoomba and the wider region’s economic future and the Palaszczuk Government is proud to be supporting cutting edge training.”

“We will also continue our free tafe initiative to provide all year 12 graduates the opportunity to gain a valuable qualification across 160 courses and launch into an exciting career for free.

“At the Toowoomba campus there are more than 430 students already gaining a qualification for free thanks to free tafe.”
