State-Of-The-Art Victoria Police HQ One Step Closer

  • Minister for Police and Emergency Services

The new state-of-the-art police precinct in Melbourne’s CBD has marked a significant milestone, with all major structural works now complete on the Victoria Police Centre.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville today joined Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton to attend a topping out ceremony for the brand-new Victoria Police headquarters at 311 Spencer Street.

Connected to the neighbouring City West Police complex, the 39-storey police headquarters will form part of a new CBD policing hub.

It features significant security and technologies to ensure a secure facility that will be integrated into the wider street scape and provide unprecedented safety for frontline police and staff.

It will be home to around 2,500 police and staff, including officers from the Victoria Police monitoring and assessment centre, transit and public safety, road policing command, family violence command and state emergencies and security command.

The site has been a hive of activity since construction commenced in 2017, with 650 people on site every day and more than one million construction hours already completed.

More than 1,000 construction jobs and 100 apprentice and trainee positions have been created or retained as part of the project.

The new centre is being developed by Cbus Property, Keppel REIT and Probuild, and at least 82 per cent of its content has been locally sourced through the Andrews Labor Government’s local-first procurement policy.

The building fit out is expected to be finalised in early 2020 and staff will move from their current base at the World Trade Centre.

The Government has delivered a record $3 billion investment for police, including a pipeline of over 50 police station infrastructure projects to ensure they have the resources, technology and facilities they need to keep our community safe.

As stated by Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville

“We’re proud to give our police the state-of-the-art infrastructure and tools they need to keep our communities safe.”

“Victoria Police will soon have a dedicated police precinct in West Melbourne integrated with partner agencies, the courts, Southern Cross station and major arterial roads, making it easier for them to complete their critical work.”

“We’re prioritising local jobs through local content requirements by supporting and creating more than 1,000 jobs, 50 apprenticeships and 50 traineeships over the life of this project.”
