Statement On Royal Darwin And Palmerston Hospital 27 March

NT Government

Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital (RDPH) is experiencing a peak in demand due to an increase in patient occupancy, combined with ongoing staffing pressures.

To manage the situation and ease pressures on the hospital system while providing high quality safe care, internal measures have been enacted and a Code Yellow is now in place at RDPH. This is in line with the national hospital coding process used to manage and respond to a range of internal and external pressures or emergencies. A Code Yellow signals an internal emergency or event that impacts a facility or a service.

Actions are being undertaken to proactively manage capacity at RDPH and strategies are in place to ensure ongoing patient safety.

We thank our dedicated staff for their hard work during these periods of high demand to ensure Territorians continue to receive the best patient centred care possible.

If you are experiencing a health emergency, call Triple Zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

The RDPH Emergency Department is open 24 hours and is able to provide urgent medical care.
