New stainless steel enclosures will be installed throughout the municipality to house East Gippsland Shire Council’s 240-litre street rubbish and recycling bins.
The project will see public place recycling bins installed in some towns for the first time. Bin sizes will also double from 120-litre capacity to 240 litres, which should reduce the emptying frequency and potential overflow during peak periods.
At its October 8 Council meeting, Council awarded a contract for the supply and installation of the bin enclosures to local company Marshall Brewer Welding & Fabrication under a schedule of rates contract. The project will be rolled out over the next three years.
Polished stainless steel was chosen as the bin enclosures need to withstand harsh corrosive environments in coastal and alpine areas. The new design meets best practice guidelines and will create a consistent look throughout the shire. The project will also introduce recycling bins to many of our town centre streets, which will improve recycling services in these areas.
