Strengthening Disability Peer Support Groups

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Victorians with disability to come together and share their experiences and insights, with applications now open for this year’s Disability Self Help Grants.

The self help grants are available to groups that strengthen the capacity of people with disability to live independently, make informed decisions about their own lives and participate in the community.

The grants are designed to assist disability self help groups with general expenses and running costs, as well as minor works and equipment.

Up to $520,000 is available, with each grant valued at up to $10,000 and provided over a two-year period. More than 60 disability self help groups received funding during the last 12 months.

This year’s funding round will prioritise groups representing diverse communities, as well as those in rural and regional Victoria, to ensure all Victorians with disability and their families have access to the benefits self help groups offer their members.

Applications close 15 February 2022.

As stated by Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Anthony Carbines

“This funding will support people with disability to share their experiences and live more independently.”

“Self help groups give people with disability an important forum to support each other – this will help cover costs so they can focus on their vital work.”
