Tasmania’s shipbuilding and maritime capabilities are world-class, and establishing ties to connect and grow the sector is a key focus for our Government.
Yesterday our Trade Mission visited the Spanish state-owned shipbuilding company Navantia, which is the fifth-largest shipbuilder in the EU and services the military and civil sector worldwide.
Three classes of warships in Australia are currently Navantia designs, and the company is keen to explore opportunities to conduct designs and innovative developments in Tasmania.
Tasmania’s reputation in defence, maritime and Antarctic industries is continuing to grow, and our Trade Strategy clearly states trade visits are an important way to further build awareness of our capabilities so we can secure even more opportunities with global trading partners.
A key objective of this visit has been to promote the new UTAS Defence Innovation and Design Precinct.
This five-day trade delegation to the UK and Europe follows on from Tasmania’s strong presence at Pacific 19 in Sydney last month, where our largest ever contingent showcased our capabilities, products and services at one of the biggest maritime trade shows in the world.
