Submission to State Administrative Tribunal on Shalom House

  • WAPC provides submission to State Administrative Tribunal on matter between City of Joondalup and Shalom House

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has today welcomed the news that the WA Planning Commission (WAPC), with the assistance of the State Solicitor’s Office, have provided a submission to the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) in relation to a matter between the City of Joondalup and Shalom House.

The matter being heard by SAT is in relation to the proposed use of a former aged care centre in the suburb of Craigie.

In its submission to the Tribunal, the Commission has advised that following further advice and consideration, it is of the view that development approval is required for the proposed use of the facility under the Metropolitan Region Scheme.

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

“In response to the considerable correspondence and feedback I received from the community, and based on the complexity of the issue, I made a commitment to ensure further legal advice was sought in relation to the proposed use of a former aged care centre in Craigie by Shalom House.

“I welcome the news today that the WAPC, with assistance from the State Solicitor’s Office, have provided a submission to the State Administrative Tribunal.

“I understand the Commission, through its submission, has advised SAT that following further advice and consideration, it has reached the view that development approval for the proposed use of the facility in Craigie is required under the Metropolitan Region Scheme.

“As the matter is before the SAT, it wouldn’t be appropriate to make any further comment, until a determination has been made.”

As stated by Hillarys MLA Caitlin Collins:

“Many Craigie parents and residents have expressed to me their concern about the establishment of this facility adjacent to a childcare centre and primary school.

“I want to make clear that I have heard those views, and I have advocated strongly on your behalf.

“I am pleased to hear today that the WAPC, with the support of the State Solicitor’s Office, have provided a submission to the State Administrative Tribunal, and will now await the final determination of the Tribunal on the matter.”
