Successful turnout for tour of Gloucester Water Treatment Plant

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council hosted its first community open day at Gloucester Water Treatment Plant on Saturday 6 November and is pleased with the feedback received following real conversations about the value of water.

The event gave community members the opportunity to gain a firsthand look at the treatment process of their water supply.

Council’s Manager of Water Management and Treatment, Chenxi Zeng, began the event at Gloucester Senior Citizens Centre by providing a brief overview of Gloucester’s water supply system.

The attendees then took a bus to Gloucester’s water treatment plant, where they took an in-depth tour of the facilities.

“Our operators worked with small groups, taking them through the whole process, from the raw water intake to the treated water tanks,” said Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott.

“We received some positive feedback from the attendees and are excited about offering future water treatment plant tours across the region.”

A second tour of Gloucester’s treatment plant is planned for October 2022, to align with National Water Week.

“We’re committed to increasing community awareness of our water supply systems,” said Mr Scott.
