Supporting grassroots sport volunteers

NT Government

Volunteers are the lifeblood of every Territory sporting club and perform vital duties which allow Territorians to participate in the sports and recreation activities that bring our community together.

Now, volunteers from sport and active recreation organisations across the Territory will have greater access to resources, tools and funding under the NT Sport Volunteer Action Plan 2023-25.

The action plan focusses on developing and supporting sport volunteers through funding of $200,000 towards grants, initiatives and activities.

The action plan supports the capability of sport and active recreation organisations to implement coaching, officiating and other volunteer development programs with support from Volunteering SA & NT.

The Territory Labor Government values the hard work of our volunteers, their contribution to sporting clubs and the work they do behind the scenes.

Sport is a fundamental part of life with over 120,000 people across the Territory actively participating each year – all with the support of volunteers.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Sport, Kate Worden

“Without volunteers, children and families wouldn’t be able to participate in sport the way they do.

“We’re making sure our hard-working volunteers have the resources, skills and support they need to keep sport and active recreation alive and well in the Territory.

“Supporting the current and future volunteer workforce is critical for ensuring quality sport and active recreation opportunities are available for all Territorians to enjoy.”

Quotes attributable to Volleyball Northern Territory President Luke Seib

“Our volunteers are not only passionate people, they’re accredited and work hard every week to make Volleyball NT the success it is – it’s so important that we support them anyway we can.

“Having an action plan from government dedicated to promoting and supporting volunteering in sport, with funding to back it, will make the world of difference to our volunteers and our sport.”
