Suspicious substance at Townsville

Police are investigating after a suspicious powder was delivered to a school in Townsville this morning.

Around 9.45am today, emergency services were called to the school on Charters Towers Road, Hyde Park to reports of white power being delivered in an envelope.

Townsville Crime Services Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said the powder was found to be harmless when tested today.

“If anyone receives or has received an anonymous envelope containing white powder, call the police immediately,” Detective Inspector Shepherd said.

“Do not transport the substance to a police station or any other location, the police will come to you.”

“A significant disruption was caused to the school and to all emergency services who responded. The Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
