Learn how to integrate sustainability and increase resilience in your home at this weekend’s free Sustainability House Open Day.
The Rowes Bay Sustainability House will throw its doors open from 8:30am on Saturday with free activities for the kids, Rowes Bay Wetland tours, expert talks and a free sausage sizzle.
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said the day encouraged sustainable lifestyles across the Townsville community.
“The free Sustainability House Open Day is a chance for Council to highlight the simple improvements that can be made around your home and garden to save energy and reduce waste,” Cr Soars said.
“Sustainability House is decked out with heaps of innovative green solutions and features a water smart garden, so you can see each tip or trick put to practical use at the house.
“It wouldn’t be a Sustainability House Open Day without a sprinkler swap, so bring your old sprinkler in and swap it for a new water-efficient sprinkler for free. The Coastal Dry Tropics Nursery next door will also have its doors open and will be selling a massive variety of local native, low-cost plants to help your garden thrive while being water smart.
“As a Council we are focused on creating a sustainable city and we need our residents to be on board by actively participating in protecting our environment. The most important changes start in the home and I know everyone who heads along to Sustainability House Open Day will leave with new ideas to try at their home.”
Sustainability House Open Day will be held from 8:30am to 1:30pm at 56 Cape Pallarenda Road at Rowes Bay. Entry is free.
