‘Together We Stand’ will be illuminated on the Sydney Police Centre as a sign of solidarity with our Victorian counterparts, who tragically lost four officers in a crash last week.
On Wednesday 22 April 2020, four police officers – Leading Senior Constable Lyn Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Josh Prestney – were killed in the line of duty following a vehicle stop on Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said the Sydney Police Centre will be lit up blue with four ribbons, the NSW Police Force emblem and Victoria Police emblem, and the words ‘Together We Stand’, in tribute to the fallen officers.
“The NSW Police Force stands together with our Victoria Police counterparts to honour these four officers’ lives and service,” Commissioner Fuller said.
“The crash was the biggest loss of police officer life in Victoria’s history and this tragedy was felt very strongly by the police family across the nation.
“Every officer in the NSW Police Force remembers their dedication to protecting the community. We show our respect for their service by lighting up our centre in blue – a colour that binds our police forces.”
The centre will be lit up tonight (Thursday 30 April 2020), tomorrow (Friday 1 May 2020) and on Monday 4 May 2020 to coincide with the funeral services of the four police officers.
