Tasmania leads nation in construction work done

Elise Archer,Minister for Building and Construction

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s priority is jobs and with the fastest growing economy in Australia, Tasmania’s building and construction sector is going from strength to strength.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has today confirmed Tasmania leads the nation in construction work, with growth of 5.6 per cent over the year to September 2019 in trend terms. All other states experienced a decline in construction activity.

This again makes Tasmania the only jurisdiction to experience growth.

Further, in the year to September 2019, residential building work was 11.5 per cent higher than the year before, making Tasmania the fastest growing state.

The data also outlined that, in the year to September 2019, the value of engineering construction work amounted to $1.632 billion, an impressive increase of 21.5 per cent compared to the previous year, and once again the highest growth rate in the country.

Tasmania has the fastest growing economy in the nation with 15,800 jobs created since our Government came to office.

Today’s data once again confirms that our Plan is working with the right policies and conditions in place, building business confidence and attracting investment. That’s why, to maintain this momentum, we are investing a record $3.6 billion into infrastructure right around our great state.
