Tasmania’s first Trade Strategy to lock in long term growth and more jobs

Will Hodgman,Premier & Minister for Trade

With record export and tourism growth it is clear that Tasmania has what the world wants and now is the time to lock this growth in for the long term.

Tasmania’s first Trade Strategy is designed to position Tasmania to be globally competitive, help our businesses expand their presence in markets around the world, attract more investment and create more local jobs.

This comprehensive, long term framework, developed in partnership with Tasmania’s exporters and producers, outlines actions to be undertaken as we work to grow our State’s exports to $15 billion per year by 2050.

A thriving export sector requires constant engagement with our overseas trading partners, which is a key component of the Strategy.

This is why the Government will take a Trade and Investment Mission to Japan with fifteen leaders from the Antarctic, food and beverage, and forestry sectors.

This Mission will focus on promoting our high value, world-class produce and our primary industries, particularly forestry in this important market.

Delegates will participate in the FOODEX Trade Show in Tokyo, which attracts around 85,000 buyers from international food service, distribution, and trading companies.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to empowering businesses to take their products to the world. We will create further opportunities for our state, and build industry capability so that Tasmania continues to record growth in trade.
