Teenagers charged after police pursuit at Moree, NSW

Three teenagers have been charged after allegedly throwing objects at a police car during a pursuit in the state’s north.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 March) officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol command spotted a vehicle allegedly driving 130km/h in a 110km/h area on the Newell Highway, North Moree.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle and initiated a pursuit when the occupants of the car, three boys aged 13, 14 and 17, allegedly threw items out of their window at officers.

The pursuit was stopped after an item significantly damaged the windscreen of the police car.

The vehicle was seen again near Moree, and police allege during a second pursuit the car reached speeds of up to 165km/h, before that pursuit was also called off for safety reasons.

A short time later the vehicle was found by police in scrubland on Buckie Road, Tulloona.

The three boys were found hiding in a nearby property, where they were arrested and taken to Moree Police Station.

The 17-year-old has been charged with drive conveyance without consent of owner, police

pursuit drive speed dangerous, drive vehicle over 45km/h, unlicensed never held, drive manner dangerous, goods in custody received in other state and trespass.

The other two boys have been charged with be carried in conveyance without consent of owner, use/possess or attempt/threaten to use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention/apprehension, malicious damage, goods in custody received in other state and trespass.

All three have been refused bail to face Moree Local Court today (4 March 2020)
