Police have helped rescue two teenagers from the Murray River after they were swept from their inflatable boat near Albury yesterday.
Officers from Murray River Police District were called to the river about 6:40pm (Saturday 14 November 2020), after reports a boy and girl were in the water.
Police have been told the teenagers, both aged 14, were floating down the river with the inflatable boat – the girl inside and the boy hanging onto the back – when it filled with water and they were swept downstream.
The teenagers managed to latch onto a branch in the middle of the river near Hodge Island before police arrived.
A male officer swam out to the girl and boy and waited with them until an Albury Volunteer Rescue boat arrived and collected the group.
The teenagers were taken for assessment to Albury Base Hospital, where they were treated for mild hypothermia, and have since been released.
