Tenders invited for delivery of Weeds Action Fund – Stage 2

Guy Barnett,Minister for Primary Industries and Water

The Tasmanian Government is committed to strengthening Tasmania’s biosecurity systems to protect our primary industries, environment, community and the tourism sector.

With the coronavirus pandemic impacting every Tasmanian, it is more important than ever that our vital industries are supported and that we maintain our ongoing business of managing issues that impact our agricultural and environmental assets.

Accordingly, tenders are now being called for the delivery of Stage 2 of the larger Weed Action Fund program. This follows the Government announcement of 34 successful projects providing $142,000 in small grants under Stage 1 of the WAF, and the recent announcement of the $350,000 Drought and Weed Management Program to help farmers manage weeds in drought-affected areas.

Tenders are invited from interested organisations capable of successfully delivering Stage 2 of the WAF, commencing in May 2020 and ending in June 2023. The tender process will remain open until 17 April 2020.

The Tasmanian Government Weeds Action Fund (WAF) has a total budget of $5 million over five years to tackle weeds that are impacting on valuable agricultural and environmental assets.

The successful launch and delivery of Stage 2 will be the centrepiece in our ongoing fight against weeds in Tasmania, with funds provided by the WAF to be invested with landowners, farmers, local government and community organisations to strategically target and tackle high priority weeds across the State.
