Third charged over murder of Warwick Hunter in Sydney’s west

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a third person as part of ongoing investigations into the murder of a man in Sydney’s west last year.

Just before 10.30pm on Sunday 15 November 2020, emergency services were called to Budgeree Road, Toongabbie, and found a man on the footpath suffering multiple stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of emergency services and members of the public, the man died at the scene.

He was formally identified as 49-year-old Warwick Hunter.

Officers attached to Parramatta Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the incident, before detectives from the Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Burranjurra.

Following extensive inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested at Lake Munmorah on Wednesday 10 November 2021.

A second man – also aged 29 – was arrested at a home at Lalor Park on Thursday 18 November 2021.

Both men were charged over their alleged roles in the incident and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, detectives attended a correctional centre at Wellington and arrested a 32-year-old man about 11.40am yesterday (Tuesday 14 December 2021).

He was taken to Wellington Police Station and charged with murder, robbery in company, and aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (armed).

The man was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court via AVL today (Wednesday 15 December 2021).

Investigations under Strike Force Burranjurra are continuing.
