Three children, two adults located unrestrained in vehicle in Narrabeen

Police have issued the driver of a car several traffic infringements after three children and two women were located unrestrained at Narrabeen last night.

About 9.25pm (Monday 10 February 2020), police were conducting stationary RBT on Pittwater Road when they noticed a Toyota Hilux utility turn into Alfred Street upon approaching the site.

Police pulled over the utility and approached the car to conduct a random breath test.

As police approached the car they noticed two woman and three children aged two and four-years-old and nine-months-old, unrestrained in the rear seat of the five-seat vehicle.

The 23-year-old male driver, a British National, produced a negative result after being breath tested.

He was issued with traffic infringement notices for drive with passenger under four-years-old not restrained (x2), driver with passenger under seven-years-old not restrained, drive with unrestrained passenger over 16-years-old (x2), and not carry licence.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, said this is totally unacceptable driver behaviour and won’t be tolerated.

“This driver has put his passengers at great risk and has learnt an expensive lesson, with nearly $2000 in fines and 18 demerit points” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.

“Last year, police issued seat belt infringements to 7329 drivers, 6043 passengers, and 5948 for children who were unrestrained.”

“Despite seat belts being compulsory since 1971 in NSW, many still don’t get the message, which is putting lives at risk.”

“This is a reminder for holders of international licences to be aware of the road rules when entering different jurisdictions, as you are not exempt from the laws that apply.

“Now is the time for drivers and passengers to get the message and ensure that they, and their passengers, are properly restrained before they begin their journey,” he said.
