Time for lying Minister Ogilvie to face music

Tasmanian Labor

If Madeleine Ogilvie thought her lies about former TasRacing CEO Paul Eriksson’s exit from the role would disappear over summer the Minister is even more disconnected from reality than she appears.

One of the Minister’s last acts of the 2022 parliamentary year was to mislead the state at the Tasracing GBE hearing on 30 November 2022.

Since then Ms Ogilvie has been in relative hiding, shying away from her usual love of the spotlight, and refusing to come clean about her untruthful conduct. On my count she has refused to answer questions at least a dozen times.

With Parliament set to resume, the time has come for the lying Minister to face the music.

Tasmanians deserve a government that is transparent and honest.

An essential part of Racing Minister’s job is ensuring the integrity of the industry. We simply cannot have someone in the role who lies to the public, misleads the parliament and refuses to correct the record.

It is clear Madeleine Ogilvie has breached the Parliamentary Standing Orders and the Ministerial Code of Conduct and Tasmanian Labor will make sure she is held accountable.

If Jeremy Rockliff had any respect for the Westminster system of government he would terminate the Racing Minister from his line-up.
