Time for unions to re-engage in good faith negotiations

Will Hodgman,Premier

It is well beyond time that Tasmania’s hardworking public sector workers received the pay rise they deserve.

To date, there have been 113 formal meetings with unions on public sector wage negotiations, and it is extremely disappointing that union leaders have recently sought to undermine the established negotiation process.

It is time that negotiations are concluded and that offers are put to union members for ratification.

As a further sign of good faith on the Tasmanian Government’s behalf, the Treasurer and I have offered to meet personally with union leaders to resolve the dispute.

The meeting is offered on the condition that all forms and threats of industrial action are ceased, immediately.

The Tasmanian Government has been, and remains, committed to good faith negotiations with unions that will enable us to deliver a wage rise for their members.

I would encourage the unions to re-engage in good faith negotiations rather than attempt to further delay public servants receiving their long awaited wage increase.
