Toongabbie Bridge will undergo refurbishment works to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians, helping preserve a vital transport link for Western Sydney communities.
The Minns Labor Government has committed additional funding to refurbish Toongabbie Bridge, improving safety for motorists and pedestrians while enhancing one of Western Sydney’s key local connections.
The refurbishment will ensure the bridge continues to provide a safe and reliable connection for the thousands of people who use it every day.
The investment builds on the Minns Labor Government’s existing $2 million commitment and $25 million from the Albanese Labor Government, bringing total funding for planning and delivery of improvements around Toongabbie Bridge to almost $30 million.
Toongabbie Bridge is a vital link between Parramatta and Cumberland over the rail line, connecting the community to major arterial roads including Seven Hills Road, Prospect Highway, the Cumberland Highway and the Great Western Highway.
The refurbishment will include replacing the rusted bridge screens, repairing footpaths, treating rust on the bridge structure, removing vegetation and repainting line markings to improve safety and preserve the bridge for years to come.
The bridge refurbishment complements the $25 million commitment from the Albanese Labor Government to upgrade Wentworth Avenue, being delivered by Parramatta and Cumberland City Councils, to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance safety across and around Toongabbie Bridge and Toongabbie Station.
Key improvements include additional traffic lanes on Wentworth Avenue, upgrades to major intersections, new traffic signals and additional pedestrian crossings to make it easier and safer for people to move through the precinct.
Construction on the bridge refurbishment is expected to begin by the end of the year, ahead of the local road and intersection upgrades commencing in early 2027, ensuring the bridge is ready to support the community for years to come.
