Coronavirus is a new virus that causes infection in people including a severe respiratory illness.

It spreads through close contact, mostly face to face or within a household.

It is most likely to spread if you’re face to face with someone for more than 15 minutes or sharing an enclosed space for more than two hours.

The most common symptoms are:

  • Fever
  • Breathing difficulties, such as breathlessness
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Fatigue or tiredness

To help reduce the spread of COVID 19 you should:

Do

  • Isolate yourself at home if you feel sick
  • Wash your hands often with soap and running water
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow if you don’t have a tissue
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with more than 60 per cent alcohol
  • Dry your hands thoroughly
  • Continue healthy habits like exercise, drinking water and getting plenty of sleep
  • Get the flu shot from the beginning of April
  • Quit smoking if you’re a smoker
  • Isolate yourself for 14 days if you’ve come back from an overseas holiday
  • Phone 1800 675 398 if you’re showing symptoms of Coronavirus.

Don’t

  • Touch your eyes, nose or mouth
  • Wear a face mask if you’re well
  • Shake hands
