Top Tasmanian athletes recognised at annual breakfast

Seventy-three of Tasmania’s top athletes have been offered high performance scholarships to help them achieve their sporting goals in the new year.

Speaking at the Tasmanian Institute of Sport’s Annual Breakfast this morning, Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street said 2024 marked the 37th year the TIS offered high performance scholarships.

“Whether it be in the weight room, on the running track, or out on the field, these athletes have shown exceptional dedication to their sports over the years,” Minister Street said.

“These scholarships will help them achieve their short-term and long-term goals.

“Congratulations to all athletes and coaches and all the best for their upcoming sporting seasons.”

High performance scholarship athletes recognised this year compete in:

  1. archery,
  2. athletics,
  3. canoe slalom,
  4. cycling,
  5. hockey,
  6. rowing,
  7. sailing,
  8. swimming,
  9. triathlon and
  10. wheelchair rugby.

A further 37 athletes will be supported across varying levels including 15 receiving targeted assistance, six on training agreements, 11 through the Cycling Performance Squad and five athletes through the Para-Sport Academy.

A further 102 athletes will receive support through the Talent ID for 2032 program, the Para-Sport Project and through their partnership with Netball Tasmania.
