Police have charged two men following the alleged torture, assault, wounding and deprivation of liberty of a 34-year-old woman at Surfers Paradise last night.

Police were called to a Laycock Street hotel around 1.50am (Friday March 31), after a 34-year-old Surfers Paradise woman presented there with head injuries and a large laceration to her leg.

Emergency services attended and the woman was transported in a stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Subsequent investigations led police to attend a Trickett Street unit complex, where two men were taken into custody.

It will be alleged the men, who were known to the woman, assaulted her at the Trickett Street unit with a hammer, cut her leg with a knife and cut her hair with a multi-tool over a 45 minute period.

A 36-year-old Mareeba man and 40-year-old Surfers Paradise man have now each been charged with one count each of torture, wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty.

They are scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court (today) Friday March 31.
