Tourism Council WA has welcomed today’s announcement by the State Government of the SafeWA contact registration system for tourism and hospitality businesses.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said the contact register was a necessary tool to help reduce community risk while keeping businesses open and maintaining jobs.
“Tourism Council WA commends the State Government on the introduction of the contact register and State-wide QR code system,” Mr Hall said.
“We cannot rely on hotel quarantine and business restrictions alone to protect the community from COVID-19. We must also maintain effective measures to track and trace any COVID transmission.”
Tourism businesses can maintain a contact register through booking systems, scanning of QR codes on arrival, and written contact records.
“We’re calling on the public to cooperate with local businesses to maintain the contact register. The onus should not be on staff to uphold the contact register – we ask that all customers do the right thing,” Mr Hall said.
“We also ask for customers’ patience during any queuing when entering large hospitality or event venues as contact registering takes place.”
Customers will only need to download the app and enter their details once, and can then use the app at multiple businesses using the State-wide SafeWA QR code system.
“We recommend people download the app before they visit a tourism or hospitality business to save time,” Mr Hall said.
