Following the short lock down in the South of Tasmania, which impacted local travel, the validity period for the successful $7.5 million tourism voucher scheme has been extended to the 7th of November.
This means that the 25,000 Tasmanian voucher holders have an additional week to use these vouchers and support our tourism and hospitality businesses.
Originally the vouchers were to be used by the 31st of October, however the additional week was added to provide those who had their travel plans disrupted by the three day lock down another chance to redeem the vouchers.
Pleasingly, we are seeing a steady redemption rate of the vouchers, with over 50 per cent having been submitted for reimbursement, and an expected increase as school holiday redemptions are submitted.
In total, the vouchers are worth $300, with $200 available to be used for multiple purchases of accommodation, and $100 for touring and attraction experiences.
The last round of vouchers generated an estimated $27.5 million in additional spending as Tasmanians traveled across the State, spreading the economic benefits across our regions.
The validity extension also mean that our industries will benefit from the momentum of the overlap between the current Travel Voucher use and the commencement of the new Tassie Holiday Voucher initiative.
This new initiative offers interstate travellers from South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland up to $300 towards the cost of a holiday in Tasmania between 4th November and 31st December 2021.
