Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP, joined Commissioner Katarina Carroll in Brisbane yesterday to officially open the 2019 Future of Policing Symposium.
The Future of Policing Symposium (FOPS) is an invitation only event, hosted by the Queensland Police Service, Griffith Criminology Institute and Griffith University focussed on collaboration.
The theme of this year’s Symposium was Transforming Policing.
This theme ensured a focus on how police agencies can become more prevention, problem-solving and community focused.
Having run annually since 2014, this is the sixth year a variety of national and international presenters have been invited to join the discussion.
Commissioner Carroll said she was grateful for the longstanding partnership between Griffith Criminology Institute and the QPS which allowed for the collaborative opportunity between researchers and police leaders at annual FOPS events.
“Interacting, discussing key issues and sharing experiences is vital to remaining connected and efficiently discussing ideas and solutions,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“Fostering collaboration and enhancing communication in this way within our partnerships is a great step towards developing new and innovative solutions to our identified areas for improvement.
“It’s important to remember that the challenges police confront are complex and are not something that any one agency is capable of addressing on their own.
“This yearly event is therefore invaluable for policing agencies to grow and continue to improve.”
