Transparency International chair to speak at Griffith public lecture

Dr Delia Ferreira Rubio, the chair of Transparency International.

Transparency International chair Dr Delia Ferreira Rubio will be the special guest speaker at an upcoming public lecture and workshop at Griffith University next month.

Integrity and corruption in 2030: What does the future hold? will be held on Friday 5 April at the Griffith Graduate Centre, at South Bank campus, and will feature appearances from some of Queensland and the Asia-Pacific’s foremost thought leaders in the field of governance and anti-corruption.

The former president of Transparency International’s Argentine chapter, Dr Rubio is an experienced member of the global anti-corruption movement, having served on its board between 2008 and 2014.

A published author, she obtained a doctorate in law from Complutense University, Madrid, and has worked extensively with the Argentine federal government and its representatives.

Joining Dr Rubio as panellists will be Transparency International Cambodia’s Kol Preap, Dr Radha Ivory of the University of Queensland, and Griffith University experts Professor Adam Graycar and Professor A J Brown.

“In Transparency International’s 2018 Global Corruption Perceptions Index, Australia maintained its all-time low position of No. 13, a slide of five places from our result in 2016,” Professor Brown, a Transparency International board member and part of Griffith’s Centre for Governance and Public Policy, said.

“What does the future look like when our citizens are losing faith in not only the competence but ethical fortitude of the government representatives they’ve elected to serve them? What shape will the next 10 years take as we move to take decisive action on achieving a less corrupt world?

“It’s a privilege to host someone as knowledgeable and experienced as Delia for this public event, as we dive into some of the most pressing issues facing integrity and anti-corruption professionals over the next 10 years.”

The event, which is sponsored by Griffith University’s new Graduate Certificate in Integrity and Anti-corruption, will begin at 12pm, and run for an hour.

A four-hour workshop – part of the curriculum for 7008GIR (Strategic Approaches to Integrity & Anti-corruption) but open to interested parties from outside the course – will follow from 2pm.

Registrations are open until Tuesday 2 April via Cvent.
