TRC to conduct prescribed burns around Millmerran

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) this month (June 2023) will start a schedule of prescribed burns in the Millmerran district to control roadside weeds and reduce the fuel load.

TRC Environmental Health portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said Council officers would start the prescribed burn schedule on road reserves at Lovell Road and Lindenmayer Road from Tuesday (June 13), conditions permitting. The burn schedule will extend to Turallin Reserve later this week if conditions remain favourable.

“Cool roadside burns assist in the management of invasive biosecurity weeds, including Mother of Millions, Harissa Cactus, Tiger Pear, Prickly Pear and juvenile Tree Pear,” Cr McMahon said.

“The program also is designed to reduce the general fuel load in selected areas around Millmerran following extensive grass growth across spring and summer.

“Other roadside locations around Millmerran will be included in the program as conditions permit in coming weeks and months.

“Council has and will notify adjoining Millmerran landholders about the planned roadside burns.

“The Millmerran district burns form part of Council’s wider fire mitigation plans, which are overseen in conjunction with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and all relevant landholders.
