Two charged after cannabis plants worth more than $3 million seized, NSW

Two people have been charged after more than $3 million worth of cannabis and more than $70,000 in cash were seized during search warrants across Sydney.

Strike Force Grassy was established in 2011 by detectives from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad (RES) to investigate the indoor cultivation of cannabis across the Central Metropolitan Region.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators executed 12 search warrants at homes in Hurstville, Kingsgrove, Kogarah, Campsie, Penshurst, Wentworthville, Homebush, Chester Hill, Canley Vale, and Old Guildford yesterday (Thursday 28 February 2019).

Investigators located and seized $72,000 in cash, 1109 cannabis plants, and 10kg of cannabis leaves from the properties.

The seized prohibited drugs have an estimated potential street value of nearly $3,378,000.

Officers arrested a 43-year-old Chester Hill man and a 33-year-old Canley Vale woman at separate homes, and they were taken to Fairfield Police Station.

The man was charged with five counts of cultivate prohibited plant, supply prohibited drug, deal with proceeds of crime, and participate in a criminal group.

The woman was charged with three counts of cultivate prohibited plant, deal with proceeds of crime, and participate in a criminal group.

The pair were refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 1 March 2019).

To date, Strike Force Grassy have seized 15,528 cannabis plants, which have an estimated potential street value of $47.8 million.
