Two injured in light plane crash in Southern Highlands

Two people have been taken to hospital following a light plane crash in the state’s Southern Highlands today.

About 1.45pm (Sunday 22 March 2020), officers from The Hume Police District received reports a light plane had crashed into bushland at a property on Tugalong Road, Canyonleigh.

Police have been told the occupants of the plane – a man and woman from Leichhardt – self-extricated from the plane and contacted emergency services via phone.

A doctor was winched down to the pair by the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter.

They were treated for an ankle and head injury respectively, before being taken from the scene in stretchers by the NSW SES.

The woman was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital, and the man was taken via road to Bowral Hospital, both in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established, which will be examined by specialist police, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has commenced.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been notified of the incident.
