Two men have been charged after allegedly lighting flares during a sporting event in Darling Harbour this morning.
About 6.15am (Saturday 20 June 2026), police were patrolling a live screen sporting event in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour, when several flares were ignited in the crowd.
Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command entered the crowd and arrested two men – aged 20 – who allegedly lit two of the flares.
Another man – also aged 20 – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics after a flare hit him in the face.
He was assessed for facial burns before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for further treatment.
The two 20-year-old men were taken to Day Street Police Station where they were charged with possess bright light distress signal in public place.
They were both granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 15 July 2026.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
