Two more men charged over Christmas Day break-in, assault in Murrumbidgee

Two additional men have been charged over an alleged break-in and assault at a home in the state’s Murrumbidgee region late last year.

About 5am on Saturday 25 December 2021, a 26-year-old man requested people leave his home on Cassia Road, Leeton. The man’s father attended the property and again asked them to leave; to which they complied.

Shortly after, a 26-year-old man was woken by three males – one carrying a baseball bat – inside his home on Cassia Road, Leeton. It will be alleged he was hit several times with the bat.

It will be further alleged two of the males held the man in place while the third man continued to assault him.

The man escaped to a friend’s house, where they contacted NSW Ambulance paramedics. Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Acacia Avenue, Leeton, about 8.30am on Tuesday 28 December 2021, where they seized cannabis and methylamphetamine, an electronic stun device, as well as clothing and a vehicle.

A 22-year-old Leeton man was arrested and charged; he remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, police arrested at 46-year-old man at Leeton Police Station, about 11am Tuesday (1 February 2022).

He was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – wound, and aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – inflict actual bodily harm.

The Leeton man was refused bail to attend Leeton Local Court on Wednesday 16 March 2022.

A third man was arrested at Narrandera Police Station about 1pm yesterday (Monday 7 February 2022).

The 24-year-old was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – wound, and aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – inflict actual bodily harm.

The Grong Grong man was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Tuesday 8 February 2022).
