The Finocchiaro CLP Government welcomes Uber’s planned rideshare launch in Alice Springs, giving locals and visitors greater transport choices.
Uber is recruiting local drivers ahead of the launch, creating flexible earning opportunities and helping boost passenger transport capacity.
The expansion is another vote of confidence in the future of Central Australia.
The Finocchiaro CLP Government has welcomed Uber’s plans to launch its rideshare service in Alice Springs, giving residents and visitors more transport options.
Uber already provides food delivery services through Uber Eats in Alice Springs and is now recruiting local drivers as it prepares to expand into rideshare.
The service is expected to commence this year once sufficient drivers have completed the necessary onboarding and regulatory requirements.
Local Member for Namatjira and Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure Bill Yan said the expansion would help meet demand for more passenger transport options in Alice Springs.
“The arrival of Uber in Alice Springs will provide the community with greater choice and additional transport capacity, particularly during busy periods,” Mr Yan said.
“Whether it’s tourists pre-booking a ride before they fly into Alice Springs, locals heading out for the night or workers getting home after a late shift, having another convenient transport option is a big win for our community.
“It will also create flexible opportunities for locals to earn additional income on a schedule that works for them.”
Mr Yan said the CLP Government welcomed all private-sector investment that delivered greater choice and more opportunities for Territorians.
“Following Uber’s recent expansion into regional centres including Broome it is encouraging to see the company recognise the potential and invest in Alice Springs,” he said.
“This is another vote of confidence in the future of Central Australia.”
