Uncover and discover reading this summer

A free reading program to encourage children to read over the summer school holidays will kick off at Cairns Libraries tomorrow (1 December).

The Summer Reading Club program will be delivered across all Cairns library branches and runs from 1 December 2021 to 31 January 2022.

It is supported by the State Library of Queensland and this year’s program is themed “Uncover and discover”.

Participants can collect a Summer Reading Club activity pack from any library and register online at www.summerreadingclub.slq.qld.gov.au.

This year, participants are encouraged to complete 20 reading challenges, with those successfully finishing the tasks earning a certificate and badge at any library.

Local authors Trudie Trewin and Rebecca Ralfe will read their own books for Storytime sessions at Smithfield Library on 14 December at 10am and at City Library on 15 December at 10am.

Cairns Libraries will be theming First 5 Forever sessions, including Storytimes and Baby Rhyme Times, to align with the Summer Reading Club program.

A First 5 Forever Storywalk – a self-guided walk featuring pages from The Little Queenslanders Alphabet Book – will be set up for families at the City and Smithfield libraries.
