Under 18 National Champs update

Two more rounds of one-day matches have been completed at the Under 18 Female National Championships in Tasmania.

Both Vic Country and Vic Metro scored a win each over Rounds 8 and 9, was they head into the final two days of competition.

In Round 8, Vic Country cruised to a win over Tasmania by seven wickets.

After being asked to bowl first, the Country bowlers made light work of the hosts lineup, bowling them out for 99. Grace Jones was the star performer, taking the first five-wicket haul of the tournament and finishing with 5-19.

A top score of 40* from Jasmine Nevins and 31* from Tahlia Meier helped Country chase the 100 runs required inside 23 overs.

Vic Metro couldn’t get going with the bat in their match up with ACT/NSW Country, bowled out for 78.

Three wickets to skipper Tess Flintoff wasn’t enough to prevent defeat, with ACT/NSW Country requiring just 22 overs to complete the chase.

Metro bounced back however with a four-wicket win over South Australia in Round 9.

Two wickets each to Ella Hayward (2-20), Maddie White (2-24) and Hailey Ferris (2-31) helped bowl SA out for 140.

An even contribution from the top and middle order saw Metro need just 30 overs to chalk up a win, with six of eight Victorian batters returning double digit scores.

ACT/NSW Country again proved a thorn in the side of a Victorian team, this time accounting for Vic Country by 52 runs.

Grace Jones was again on fire with the ball, taking 4-32 from seven overs as the opposition set 5-202 from its 50 overs.

Tiana Atkinson (41) and Jaide Anthony (21) were the best of the Victorian batters, but ultimately the Vics fell short in the chase.
