Unlawful Use Of Motor Vehicle At Mount Isa

Police have arrested five young people following the alleged theft of six vehicles from Mount Isa this morning, September 5.

Initial information indicates between 1am and 3am, three vehicles were stolen from businesses on Mica Creek Road and Miles Street, and one from a Camooweal home.

A short time later, police deployed a tyre deflation device, and a Holden Colorado utility was located.

A Ford Escape and Toyota Hilux were located abandoned nearby.

At around 5:30am, a Nissan SUV was stolen from a Simpson Street residence and was located abandoned shortly after.

Police were called to a Parkside facility at around 7am, after a second Toyota Hilux had crashed through a fence, causing damage.

That vehicle was later used in an alleged robbery on West Street, where two people approached a woman and demanded her car keys.

They assaulted her and stole her Holden Commodore.

The woman sustained minor injuries was provided medical treatment at Mount Isa Station.

Aerial assets were deployed to assist with tracking the stolen Commodore.

At around 10:30am, the Holden Commodore crashed into a fence on Hillary Street, before the occupants fled the vehicle.

The Dog Squad was deployed, and five young people were taken into custody and are assisting police with enquiries.
