Unmarked Vehicle Patrol Detects Road Safety Offences

As part of Operation Safe Arrival, members from the Devonport Police Station conducted a three hour patrol today using unmarked vehicles.

The patrol concentrated on highways and secondary roads between Devonport and Deloraine.

During this period the following offences were detected:

Speeding Vehicles: 20

Defect Notices Issued: 2

Mobile Phones detected: 1

Unregistered motor vehicles: 1

Inattentive drivers: 1

Oral Fluid Test: 1

Senior Sergeant James Scicluna said that as always, police were targeting speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelts, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“We focus on these things because they more than anything else, contribute to deaths and serious injuries on our roads,” he said.

“You can help us look out for everyone’s safety by obeying the road rules, making sure your loved ones do too, and calling police if you see something dangerous on the road.

“As the Easter break is drawing to a close, many vehicles are returning from their break. Motorists are also experiencing slippery conditions on the road with substantial rainfall in many parts of the state. Please take the time to plan your road trip, be patient with other motorists, and make sure your vehicle is safe before you head off anywhere.”

“Remember when you’re out and about these holidays, so are police.”
