Up 55,000: Tasmania hits record highs with new jobs stats

Michael Ferguson, Treasurer

The Rockliff Liberal Government is getting things done and building Tasmania’s future, evident with continued strong jobs growth.

New ABS data released today for November 2022 shows Tasmania’s workforce hitting new record highs, with a high of 290,000 Tasmanians employed, with the highest participation rate on record of 62.9 per cent.

This represents the equal strongest job growth around the nation at 0.5 per cent, well ahead of the national average of 0.2 per cent.

Treasurer Michael Ferguson said these fantastic results show that there are 55,000 more people employed since we came into Government in 2014, and 10,885 more than this time last year.

The data also shows the highest number of Tasmanians employed in full time work at 185,400.

“We also now have more women in employment than ever before, with a record 139,256 Tasmanian women employed,” Treasurer Ferguson said.

“The unemployment rate has remained steady at 4 per cent.

“These figures show that our plan for Tasmania is working.

“With the population of Tasmania growing to 571,500, it is clear that people are moving to our State and are finding work in our strong economy.

“We have more Tasmanians employed than ever before and trends show us continuing that growth.

“The State is employing more Tasmanians than ever under this Government, and we remain committed to creating jobs, growing the economy and opportunities as we work to strengthen our future.

“Let’s remember that these numbers are about our people, families and communities. Our strong economic plan and prudent financial management is leading to better employment security and allows the Government to provide stronger public services and upgraded infrastructure.

“The state is employing more Tasmanians than ever under the Rockliff Liberal Government. It hasn’t been easy – we’ve had to work hard to implement our policies despite constant opposition of the Greens and Labor parties.

“Our plan for Tasmania will continue to see our State breaking records as we continue to support Tasmanians, our businesses, and our community as we deliver on our plan to secure Tasmania’s future.”
