Detectives from the Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a second man following investigations into fraud offences.
Police will allege that the men targeted elderly members of the community, particularly those living alone and committed offences by convincing the victims to have unnecessary work done, such as house painting, pest control, driveway cleaning and roof repairs.
It will be further alleged that these men are not licenced to conduct this type of work and are grossly overcharging and acting dishonestly by altering cheques and charging for work that was not completed.
Gympie detectives are continuing to investigate with other partner agencies and believe the men have been active in the Gympie, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Brisbane areas over the past two or three years.
At this stage, over 40 victims have been identified as part of the investigation and fraudulently obtained over $100,000.
Detectives are appealing to anyone that may have had dealings with the men or have had work done at their house that they are suspicious about to contact them.
A 28-year-old man was charged on January 8 with three counts of fraud and one count each of forgery, unlicensed driving and utter (forge bank cheque).
A second man, a 25-year-old, was charged on January 9 with four counts of fraud, two counts of receiving tainted property and one of stealing.
Both men have been remanded in custody and are due to appear in the Gympie Magistrates Court on February 4.
